Your First Steps in VR
How to access the VR Education app
How to access the VR Education app
Your Meta Quest must be connected to the internet before you can download or access the app. Select the Quick Setting button on the bottom left of the menu bar (next to your avatar; it will show time and battery levels) to access the WiFi tab and see a list of available connections.
Open the Meta Store on your headset to search for and download the AAO VR Education app. The download should last less than a couple of minutes on a good and stable connection.
Open the app library on your headset and aim with the controller at the AAO VR Education icon, and then pull the trigger to start the simulation.
This is the AAO VR Education Atrium. From here, you can access a VR Tutorial to familiarize yourself with headset and controllers by pressing the button on the left of the window. If you are ready to access the ROP simulator, log in by selecting the button on the right.
Login credentials are required to access the simulation. Use your Academy member account to gain full access. You can scroll on this window by pressing the trigger button when aiming at the window, and moving your controller up or down.
If you are not an Academy member, you can still become a registered user by following this link and gain access to the simulator.
Once logged in, you can use the stick on your controller to move around and explore the atrium.
Congratulations, you are now ready to enter the ROP simulation!
Please follow our Step-By-Step Guide to find out more about all the available content in the VR experience.
You can "walk" in VR without moving from your standing or seated position.
Use the stick on your controller with your thumb to move and explore the Atrium. Pushing the stick forward and holding down will show you an arch that points at where you'll be landing once you release the stick. Moving the controller will change the direction or distance (point your arm up to move farther).
"Snapping" (quickly pushing and immediately releasing) the stick will move you forward faster but with less control on the direction. Snapping backwards will commonly return you to a starting position.
To exit the application, press the Quit icon in the top right corner, or the Home button on the top left corner.
You can also press the Oculus button on your controller, and then select Quit.
The headset doesn't turn on, or the controllers are not responding
Make sure your headset is fully charged before each use. You can charge your headset via USB-C cable.
Controllers are powered by AAA batteries (one for each controller) which should be replaced regularly.
Connection/Internet issues
The headset must be connected to a WiFi network or hotspot for the app to work. Some networks in public places or offices might not allow connections from consoles and headsets such as the Meta Quest, so an alternative hotspot (such as a mobile phone with data connection) should be set up instead.
The simulation doesn't appear on the Meta Quest library
The AAO ROP VR simulation must be downloaded from the Meta App Store before it becomes available in your library.
Sometimes a simple restart and reconnecting to WiFi can resolve the most common issues.
